mode share is greater here than those cities and many cities throughout the country. this year we suffered and felt the consequences of inaction as a city with bicycling and many deaths and emily's death and others that we know about dangerous and not just soma but in the city and young professionals that have perished and to eldr elders as well and i think there is a more imperative and many advocated this and make the city safer for bicycling and other modes of transportation as well. also bicycling needs to be safe for families to feel comfortable to bike in the city as well so that's a goal. the responsibility to fund the bicycling infrastructure really falls on all of us as the board of supervisors but also for the mayor and the city departments as well, and i believe that we have failed in that regard as well according to the reports. the mta, the mayor and certainly our board of supervisors i think have to come together hopefully with this hearing but also and beyond to put our money where our mouth is and to support demands that have been coming from different

and i reside in the area, of the city. and i have lived in sros in the city, and i had to use the free meals program in the past and i have been on cal fresh and currently when the time avails me i am able to help out with one of the programs in the cooking classes and one of the points that i would like to reiterate is, the fact of ex-expanding the access to publicly available cooking facilities. the programs are being strained for the budget, and this is just as was pointed out, and at one point, however many came to the door. within the sros we can kind of eliminate that stress. by, having cal fresh utilize more of getting food that you made and in the sros. by people that need it. and the problem is that most sros, have at most, a microwave, it is no nutrition or filling, if you build it they will come, if more are funded and more sros and that sort, were able to have a more fully equipped kitchen that to deliver the nutritional value and would i feed my kids and myself. and you are very limited with the either having

we are one of the most walkable cities in america. and we are a city of neighborhoods. and it is part of the great attraction, the fact that we are geographickly small means that you can do a lot of what you want to do in san francisco, on foot. which is a great thing. in terms of cycling we are one of the most bicycle friendly cities and it is a fast growing mode of transportation in san francisco and we have seen a lot of growth of creative ways of getting around and we launch the bike sharing a couple of months ago and san francisco has been a leader in car sharing. and a lot of other services are developing to try to make it easier for people to get around the city. but we are also not without our challenges and i made reference, already, and i will and i don't think that i need to talk about the challenges that we have with the muni and despite the fact that we are a very walkable city, in terms of pedestrian safety, we really compare pretty unfavorably to many other major cities in the united states, really the exact opposite of where we want to be. and our bicycl

early days of the city, the city grows up in what is the financial district on the edge of chinatown. everything they rely on for existence is the golden gate. it's of massive importance to the people what comes in and out of san francisco bay. they can't see it where they are. they get the idea to build a giant wooden structure. the years that it was up here, it gave the name telegraph hill. it survived although the structure is long gone. come to the 1870's and the city has growed up remarkably. it's fueled with money from the nevada silver mines and the gold rush. it's trying to be the paris of the west. now the beach is the suburbs, the we will their people lived on the bottom and the poorest people lived on the top because it was very hard getting to the top of telegraph hill. it was mostly lean-to sharks and bits of pieces of houses up here in the beginning. and a group of 20 businessmen decided that it would be better if the top of the hill remained for the public. so they put their money down and they bought four lots at the top of the hill and they gave them to the city. lily

i can sprk speak to the nature resources in the part of the city. we have some great nature places in her. one of the thipgdz we want to do is we want to inform the public we have nature in the city and that includes right here in the community bayview hill and a park and 494 where i was yesterday. there's a lot great work and, of course, candle stick park to have the master plan and help with the restoration of the yosemite flew and i'm happy to hear talk about katrina and sandy. we need to be promulgating to restore our nature systems for community resiliency but also for national resiliency. it's good for nature. so i wanted to just take a couple of times to talk about some of the things bore doing. we have a whole breath of goals the mission overall is to restore the adverse and to connect as follows to our nearby nature. so within that we have multiple goals and collaboration it's important to interdepartmentally with all our community stakeholder. bringing nature into the urban environment and will be spoken to with respect to the next agenda

the eastern neighborhoods represents about 12 percent of the city's growth. so, it does represent a fair amount, but it does not represent the majority of growth that is proposed in the city that is largely in the downtown south of market and shipyard and candlestick and treasure island. these are neighborhoods that represent roughly 12 percent of the growth in the city coming as a whole and on-the-job side. where you see the vast majority of sides that are proposed on the downtown south of market and hunters point with about 8 thousand of those jobs in eastern neighborhoods. just to give you a run down. all of the numbers that you see right now represent the numbers that are projected in housing and jobs and all of the areas where we have done plans. we have done plans in these areas for 80,000 housing units and 8,000 jobs. it's projected for 2040. that 15 percent that i talked about earlier, we are still short particularly on-the-job side accommodating 50,000 new jobs. all the planning we've done we need to do more to figure out how to accommodate our share
